DESCRIPTION
One of the most significant panoramic viewpoints of the Alto Reno is definitely from Monte Piella, located at 1196 m a.sl.. Here you can enjoy a view over the Reno Valley leaning to Bologna. To improve your experience you can use a large telescope and a photographic plaque provided by the Pro Loco of Capugnano where the localities and the peaks are well shown and described.
It is also an important area for flying and paragliding, very popular because it can be reached by car. On the belvedere stands a large iron cross installed on September 26, 1976 by the Alpini and manufactured at Porretta DEMM factories.
In the autumn months – when Porretta and the Reno valley are immersed in the fog – the belvedere stands out from the clouds remaining exposed to the sunlight.
The road to get there is characterized by beautiful pine forests and beech woods crossed by several paths. It is one of the main destinations for mushroom seekers. The forests are the property of the Municipality of Alto Reno Terme and of the consortiums of utilisti of Capugnano and Castelluccio.
The Monte Piella viewpoint can be reached from Porretta in less than 3 hours walking, following the CAI 107 e 107A treks.
